Georgia and Alabama Industrial Stormwater Permits Expiring This Year

Posted on February 8, 2022

It’s stormwater permit renewal time in Georgia and Alabama! Georgia’s industrial stormwater permit expires May 31, 2022. Permittees regulated under the current permit should submit a Notice of Intent (NOI) to renew their permit coverage. Georgia’s Environmental Protection Division requires NOIs be submitted through their online system for permitting and compliance, GEOS. The deadline for existing permittees to submit a NOI is Friday, July 1. Don’t forget to update your Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) to comply with the new permit requirements prior to submitting an NOI.

Alabama’s NPDES Permit for several industrial sectors expires this year. Permit number AL060000 for the Lumber, Wood, and Paper Products industry expires June 30, 2022. To renew coverage under this permit, existing permittees should submit an updated NOI via the Alabama Department of Environmental Management e-NOI system by Friday, April 1, 2022. Permittees are required to prepare and fully implement Stormwater Best Management Practices (BMP) Plans.
