EPA Proposes to Update Reporting Requirement Regarding Greenhouse Gas Emissions

On July 6, 2023, the EPA issued a News Release about their proposal to update the current reporting requirements for Greenhouse Gas Emissions. The update would be made to Subpart W of the GHG Reporting Program and will affect applicable petroleum and natural gas facilities.
The EPA wants to make changes to how methane emissions from various sources are reported in order to better track them. The EPA proposes including new sources like unusual methane releases that aren’t counted currently. The use of better methods and technology like remote sensing to measure emissions more accurately is also a part of the proposed changes. The EPA is also deciding how to handle confidential data submissions.
