After graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Arizona in 1989, Mr. Berkey was quickly promoted from Engineer to Senior Engineer with a private consultant and was responsible for the successful planning, design, and permitting of some of the largest residential subdivisions, planned mixed use developments, and commercial site plans in the United States as well as several international projects in Peru and Puerto Rico.

Mr. Berkey then accepted a leadership position with the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey as the Team Leader for the planning, design, permitting, and construction compliance of the Redevelopment of the Internal Roadway Network at John F. Mr. Berkey advanced his career by owning and operating his own Design/Build Engineering and Construction firm.  He successfully designed, obtained permits, and completed construction on many residential, commercial, and industrial projects as well as numerous public works infrastructure improvement projects.  Several of the projects Mr. Berkey was involved with required design, successful permitting, and construction in and around sensitive State and Federal Jurisdictional Streams and Wetlands.  These projects required permitting of stream crossings and wetland mitigation and required significant coordination with State regulators and the United States Army Corp. of Engineers.  Mr. Berkey’s company also successfully obtained permits, owned, and operated their own stone quarry.

After selling his business’s assets in 2005, Mr. Berkey re-entered the Private Consulting industry where he again managed the design and construction of residential subdivisions, commercial and industrial site plans, and various public works infrastructure improvement projects.  In addition, he also diversified by working in a variety of additional practice areas including preparation of various studies including traffic impact studies, environmental impact statements and studies, stormwater studies, and flood studies.  Over the past several years, Mr. Berkey has also performed environmental assessment work and has prepared spill prevention control and countermeasure plans as well as stormwater pollution prevention plans for various industries.
