Health & Safety Manager, Rob Mears, Joins Environmental 360’s Team

Environmental 360 was pleased to add Rob Mears and his expertise to the team last month. Rob is the Health and Safety Manager at Environmental 360 and is a safety and industrial hygiene consultant having more than 14 years of safety and industrial hygiene experience with both general industry and government entities. Mr. Mears graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Environmental Science (1998) and a Master’s of Science in Occupational Safety & Health with a concentration in Industrial Hygiene from Murray State University (1999). He holds the credentials of Certified Industrial Hygienist by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene, Certified Safety Professional by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, and a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager by the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management. Mr. Mears started his career with General Motors Corporation. Here he supported multiple GM Manufacturing Facilities by ensuring compliance between current industrial site safety programs/policies and UAW/GM guidelines, federal OSHA laws, and state laws. He also maintained and updated the OSHA 300 Log database in order to record and track the trends in workplace injuries and illnesses as well as the preventative incident measures. Mr. Mears implemented engineering design safety measures on new equipment being installed at several General Motors facilities and developed a Job Safety Analysis process for high-risk low-frequency tasks. Mr. Mears also managed hazardous waste disposal and supervised the worker’s compensation program. He then went on to work for other general industries as well as NASA and the Department of Energy. In this time, Mr. Mears wrote, revised, and implemented new Occupational Safety, Health & Environmental programs and helped to bring facilities into compliance with local, state, and federal regulations which included employee and contractor safety orientations. He implemented new OSHA 300 Incident Investigation processes to allow for better root cause analysis of occupational incident investigations. At NASA, Mr. Mears was responsible for managing the chemical inventory and hazardous waste disposal. This included the management of an electronic database with the Material Safety Data Sheets and training of affected employees. Mr. Mears led industrial hygiene efforts on projects including safe use of isocyanate based paint, safe application and removal of styrene wire coatings, air sampling for volatile organic compounds and formaldehyde, total and respirable dust monitoring, noise monitoring, and electromagnetic field studies. Mr. Mears was the recipient of the Nissan Outstanding Achievement Award; Safety, Security, and Regulatory Support, Outstanding Contributor Award; and the Exceptional Service Award for ES&H Leadership. At Environmental 360, Mr. Mears will handle the Environmental, Health & Safety program for all of the Environmental 360 clients including industrial and manufacturing facilities as well as the internal EH&S program for the Environmental 360 team members. His proven success in developing safety programs and training employees on these programs will be a huge asset to the entire Environmental 360 team. Rob has already begun helping our clients achieve safety in their facilities.
