Giving Back Amidst Restrictions

Posted on March 24, 2021

Giving back to our community has always been important to Environmental 360. At Christmas, each team member was able to give $100 to a charity of their choice in their local community. Through those efforts, our team was able to give $2,400 directly to charities important to us. Our team also participates in a larger project to support a local charity in our headquarters town of Murfreesboro, TN. This year was our third-year packing food bags for ATLAS students in Rutherford County, Academic Time Leads to Achieving Students, and delivering them to the local schools.

ATLAS exists for the students who are experiencing homelessness. They provide homeless children and youth transportation, assistance with enrollment, participation in federal nutrition programs, school supplies, academic support, weekend food backpacks, hygiene supplies, and summer reading material. Their goal is to empower students to overcome barriers with increased stability and support. With the effects of COVID, these service needs have only increased.

To ensure our team was able to give back while remaining safe, our home office staff rotated days in the office to pack our bags. Each Ziplock bag included ravioli, easy mac, pudding, fruit cups, mini-muffins, pop tarts, fruit snack, granola bar, cheez-its, oatmeal, and peanut butter crackers. Over one week, we were about to stuff 240 bags! If you are interested in giving back or learning more about ATLAS, you can find more information here

In February, our team welcomed a new Project Scientist for the Pacific Northwest, Jason Atkins. Jason graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Oregon focusing on Economics as well as Geology.

Jason worked as a wildland firefighter throughout his undergraduate degree. He was able to travel all over the Pacific Northwest as well as Alaska while working to protect the forests and property from wildfires. After college, Jason worked for Roseburg Forest Products, a plywood manufacturing company, where he started as a Quality Assurance Technician before being promoted to Supervisor where he managed over 30 people for 2 years. At Environmental 360, Jason will complete project work for the clients primarily in the Pacific Northwest in areas pertaining to SPCC, CEMS/COMS, and LDAR. He is also Method 9 certified for visible emissions and opacity.
